What is Entune?

The need to stay connected to friends, family and coworkers has only increased as the distance people commute to and from work gets longer. This need for information can also be easily extrapolated to news and traffic alerts to help people make sure they are taking the most efficient route to their destination. What was once a mishmash of scattered radio reports, maps and frustration can now be easily collated with the Toyota Entune system, available on almost every Toyota sedan, SUV and pickup truck. What once started as a way to consolidate as many devices into a single point of operation has blossomed into one of the automotive industry’s most respected infotainment systems.

What Entune Is

Entune is Toyota's entrant in the in-car infotainment wars. Hot on the heels of Ford's controversial MyFord Touch system, Entune takes a somewhat different approach-the idea is to give the centrally mounted touchscreen the functionality of a smartphone. Unlike some rivals, it doesn't provide control over basic vehicle functions, focusing instead on integrating handy apps into the driving experience.

Entune Features

When it was originally launched, Toyota’s audio display system, Entune, included three years before users had to start paying for a subscription. So, how much does Entune cost? Today, Entune does not have a subscription cost unless you want to add a satellite radio package.

For something that’s useful in so many situations, the zero cost of Entune raises the value of all Toyota vehicles that utilize the service. For those unfamiliar with Toyota’s Entune system, here are a few of the highlights.

Entune App Suite

The Entune App Suite is basically a bunch of handy apps all gathered into one place. It’s truly a sublime convenience for drivers. Much like on your smart phone, with Entune, your apps appear on a touchscreen, which is located on the dash. Many vehicles, such as the 2016 Toyota Camry offer a 7-inch touch screen display. There are many apps available for the App Suite, including coveted apps such as Pandora, Yelp, OpenTable, MovieTickets.com, and even Facebook Places.

Bluetooth

Once you have linked your smart phone and Entune to be Bluetooth compatible, your options expand even more. Obviously, hands-free calling is one of the greatest benefits of Bluetooth, as it allows drivers to talk on the phone without once having to redirect focus from the road. Hands-free calling can be easily activated with the press of a readily accessible button on the steering wheel.

But hands-free calling is just the beginning of the benefits that come with Bluetooth. Drivers with iPhones can also utilize the Siri Eyes Free feature. This makes it possible to use Siri voice recognition through the Entune system.

Navigation

Entune also includes a highly advanced navigation system, which will ensure drivers always reach their destinations in the most efficient way possible. With optional 2D or 3D maps, the ability to access pre-saved routes, speed limit notification, voice recognition address input, weather and traffic data, as well as traffic forecasting, the Entune navigation system is top-of-the-line.
